Repair after file corruption
Possible causes are Windows crashes, hardware errors and mostly virus scanner interference.
UcxLog then no longer starts or with error messages or no longer knows its own call sign or log.
Manual workaround is possible with simple file copying, no installer or uninstallation is required.
UcxLog requires files in 2 directories and a start call; these must be found first.
They were set by yourself during the initial installation and were
readable in the menu "Help - Show file locations" when the program
was intact.
- Program directory
Usually C:\UcxLog or D:\UcxLog (
NOT C:\Program...).
Should contain some of these files:
COUNTRY.DAT history.txt readme.txt UcxLog.exe UcxLogE.chm UcxlogLicense.zip ...
Repair (always harmless):
- Important: Enter the program directory and the file UcxLog.exe into the whitelist (exception list) of the virus scanner (see below)
- Download the file https://www.ucxlog.com/UcxLog.zip
- Unpack all files from UcxLog.zip into the program directory (overwrite, do not unpack UcxLogLicense.zip again)
- The program directory should then contain at least these files:
COUNTRY.DAT UcxLog.exe UcxLogE.chm UcxlogLicense.zip ...
- Start call in the UcxLog start icon
Right click on start icon --> Properties - Shortcut - Target:
Repair if call sign, settings or logs are missing:
Enter: "ProgramDirectory LogDataDirectory" (see below)
Example: C:\UcxLog C:\UcxLog\DL0XYZ
- Log data directory
Present once per log, often C:\UcxLog\<own_callsign> or D:\UcxLog\Logs\<own_callsign>, Example: C:\UcxLog\DL0XYZ
Should contain the file UcxLog.ST2 (contains all settings) and the log files with extension .UCX (e.g. LOG_2023.UCX).
Repair if call sign or settings are missing:
- Important: Enter the log data directory into the whitelist of the virus scanner (see below)
- Backup existing files
- Copy (overwrite) the file UcxLog.ST2 from backups or from the cloud (contact DL7UCX).
- If no UcxLog.ST2 file can be found, UcxLog starts the installation and all settings must be re-entered.
Repair if logs are missing:
- Important: Enter the log data directory into the whitelist of the virus scanner (see below)
- Backup existing files
- Copy (overwrite) *.UCX files from backups or from the cloud (contact DL7UCX).
